2015 marks the Start of a New Event for ACTIVE Older Adults and Features “Seniors Making A Difference”
ACTIVE Individuals 60 + are invited to celebrate International Day of the Older Person on Thursday, October 1, 2015 by attending a new event called
“VillAGE Symposium: Empowering Ourselves to Impact our Diverse Senior Communities.” Sponsored by Bi-Lingual International Assistant Services and the St. Louis Minority Advocacy Coalition, with generous support from the Missouri Office of Minority Health, the Symposium will be held from 9 am – 1:30 pm at the Ferguson Community Center, 1050 & 1072 Smith Ave., Ferguson, MO. Highlights include inspiring speakers; break out session on financial, wellness and community involvement; health screenings; community resources and more. $4.00 donation includes lunch.
ADVANCE registration by September 22 is requested. The event also will feature “The Face of AARP,” Loretta M. Davis, presenting awards to local “Seniors Making a Difference.” Nominations are being sought for ACTIVE older adults who demonstrate exemplary efforts as volunteers, for the following categories:
- Making a Difference for an Individual or Small Group.
- Making a Difference in a Neighborhood or Community
- Making a Difference as a Volunteer for a Non-Profit Agency.
Nominees must be at least 60 years of age and currently reside in the St. Louis metropolitan area; have not received public awards/recognition for similar activities within the past 5 years and do not receive wages or similar compensation (other than mileage reimbursement or modest stipend) for volunteer related activities. Individuals may be nominated by a friend, family member, senior group leader or members, colleagues, etc. Self-nominations also will be accepted. Nominations forms must be received bySeptember 22.
