Project Safe Space: Trauma-Focused Mental Health Services for Refugee and Immigrant Children launched in 2014 and currently serves immigrant and refugee youth in both St. Louis County and St. Louis City through support from St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund and the St. Louis MHB, with additional support from the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis and Saigh Foundation. Project Safe Space specializes in providing free, trauma-informed mental health services to immigrant and refugee children and youth between the ages of 5-19. The project currently partners with schools in the Ritenour, Bayless, Hazelwood, Pattonville, Lindbergh and St. Louis Public School Districts, as well as with Premier Charter School.
Services include:
- Comprehensive trauma-informed assessments (caregiver, teacher, child).
- Trauma-focused individual and group therapy utilizing somatic-based and EMDR interventions.
- Caregiver support: trauma-informed psycho-education sessions and coaching.
- Teacher support: trauma-informed trainings and individualized coaching (upon request).
Students qualified for our services must be either:
- Foreign-born children
- Children of foreign-born caregivers
- ELL students
