Macklind International Senior Center is excited to collaborate with the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College. As part of the Community and Public Health curriculum, nursing students visited our Bosnian Senior Group on Tuesday, September 19th. The goal of the visit was to raise students’ awareness of health issues concerning seniors in the community while simultaneously providing health education (or health “reminders”) and instruction on self-care to an ethnic minority population.
Many of our seniors struggle with multiple health issues including high blood pressure and diabetes. Bosnian Senior Group members enthusiastically participated in blood pressure screenings and practiced their “doctor’s office English” with the nursing students.
We look forward to welcoming the Goldfarb students back in several weeks for dementia education and screenings.
