We honor the memory of our friend and colleague, Ellen Sherman, who passed on February 12, 2025 from injuries sustained in a fall. A fall at the gym, no less, because Ellen wouldn’t do anything the boring way. Ellen was a 4’9” dynamo that genuinely cared about our organization, our team, and our clients. As Volunteer Coordinator, Ellen was responsible for recruiting direct service volunteers as well as almost all of our board members. She has been lovingly described as “an 85-lb. ball of coercion,” who never seemed to be totally off the clock. She was all-in on her commitment to working on behalf of immigrant seniors and the poor, and would not hesitate to put a finger in your chest to convince you to do the same. She didn’t want anyone to be lonely or hungry, and no one was when she was around. There will never be another Ellen Sherman. May her memory be a blessing to all that knew her.

An obituary for Ellen with details on services is available here.
